Revised 3/2025

The student and parent agree to respect and abide by the Studio Policies outlined here for as long as the student is taking lessons.

If a new version of the policies is issued, a copy with changes highlighted will be provided.

General Information:  Weekly or biweekly private lessons are offered in 30 or 60-minute sessions, depending on the student’s age/level.

At the Studio:  Students are expected to arrive for lessons on time with all their materials and music.  Parking is available in the driveway beside the front walk.  Parents and siblings may quietly sit in the living room where lessons are held, wait in their vehicle in the driveway, or run errands so long as they return to pick up their student in a timely fashion.  To discuss student progress, parents are always welcome to talk with Mrs. Kitzmiller at the beginning of the student’s lesson.

Practice & Instrument:  Private students are expected to practice consistently.  Piano students are encouraged to practice on a well-maintained acoustic piano.  It is best practice to tune acoustic pianos at least twice a year as the season’s change.  If an acoustic piano is not possible, a full-sized 88-key digital keyboard with weighted key action and a pedal is highly recommended.

Materials:  Students are recommended to use a tote bag to carry all of their lesson materials.  An email summary from the lesson will be emailed to the parent and/or student.  This summary often includes repertoire covered, goals, and practice suggestions or reminders.

Unless otherwise prearranged, Mrs. Kitzmiller will obtain all necessary books and materials for the student.  The receipt for reimbursement will be provided upon delivery of these books and materials with payment due along with the tuition for the current lesson.

Calendar & Scheduling:  Your date and time slot are held for you unless either party communicates a need for a change prior to the lesson’s start time.  Ideally, notice of a need for a change will come in the days before the scheduled lesson, but unexpected circumstances happen to everyone.  For everyone involved, flexibility is highly valued, but communication is key.  Often, a rescheduled date and/or time is very possible with enough notice.

Cancelled Lessons & Lessons that Start Late: In the event of a lesson missed in its entirety for any reason, it is imperative that the cancelling party communicate this as soon as possible. If a lesson is missed without any communication, the next lesson will be the usual tuition rate plus $10 (30 minute lessons) or $20 (60 minute lessons).  If a lesson begins late due to a late arrival, the lesson will still need to conclude at the regularly scheduled time and will be subject to the usual tuition rate.

Tuition & Payment:  Tuition is flat rate for either 30 or 60-minute sessions.  Please contact Mrs. Kitzmiller for the current tuition rate.  Discounts for siblings are available.  Tuition is due at the time of the lesson and may be paid via cash, check, Paypal, or Venmo.  Failure to pay for the current lesson will result in a hold on any future lessons.

Summer Months:  During the summer months, families may opt to continue with lessons.  However, lesson times may be possible during the daytime hours and may be flexible to change from week-to-week.  Summer dates and times should be reserved ASAP as open time slots will be offered to new students and students exploring lessons.

Discontinuing Lessons:  Every student stops taking lessons at some point.  Ideally, the decision is made thoughtfully with discussion between Mrs. Kitzmiller, the parent, and the student so that lessons can cease with a positive sense of closure.  For this reason, Mrs. Kitzmiller asks for 1-2 lesson’s notice prior to discontinuing lessons when possible.  However, Mrs. Kitzmiller respects the student’s right to end lessons at any time.

Parent Participation:  Parents are encouraged to be supportive and active participants in practice at home.  Parents are also encouraged to attend and quietly observe lessons once a month or more.

Media Release:  Photos, audio, and video recordings of student performances may be utilized for studio promotion or posted online.  Identifying information will be excluded or limited to first names only.  Parents wishing to exempt their student from any published media may do so by providing a written exclusion request.

Communication:  The best way to contact Mrs. Kitzmiller is through text or email, which will be returned as promptly as possible.  Students are always welcome to contact me for help with their practice assignments or other related questions.
